What is Suboxone treatment?

Suboxone is a medication offering benefits to individuals recovering from opioid use disorder.

The medication works by binding to opioid receptors in your brain, which reduces cravings. Reducing cravings will help you meet your recovery goals. Suboxone also minimizes the difficult withdrawal symptoms that might prevent you from recovering without the assistance of inpatient treatment.

When should I consider Suboxone treatment?

You may be a candidate for Suboxone treatment if you aren’t able to stop using opioids on your own or if you are experiencing withdrawal effects like:

• Anxiety
• Shaking
• Insomnia
• Sweating
• Agitation
• Muscle aches
• Digestive upset

These symptoms can develop within 12 hours of your last use of opioids and be severe enough that you take more opioids to feel better. This repeated cycle can make it difficult to achieve your goals without the help of an evidence-based medication.

The Radical Healing providers offer comprehensive health evaluations to determine if Suboxone treatment is correct for you. During your 60-minute initial evaluation, the providers review your medical history, evaluate your mental health, and discuss your goals for recovery.

The providers can also address depression and other mental health issues that can occur with opioid use disorder. 

What is involved in Suboxone treatment?

After you sign a patient agreement and controlled substance agreement, the Radical Healing providers give you a prescription for Suboxone. The medication is sublingual and goes under your tongue, where it dissolves quickly.

You must take the medications on schedule and exactly as directed to avoid uncomfortable side effects like digestive upset, sweating, and anxiety. When you no longer want to continue with Suboxone treatments, the Radical Healing providers will help you taper your doses to prevent complications.

Radical Healing does not currently offer psychotherapy services but strongly encourages individuals to work with a therapist on a regular basis. The providers can provide referrals to a therapy professional and coordinate your treatment with time.

The Radical Healing providers will have monthly visits with you to closely monitor your progress and support you in your treatment.
