What is autism testing?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition resulting from differences in the brain.

When you have autism, you may have trouble communicating or interacting with others. You may also have difficulty understanding your emotions and the emotions of others, repeat behaviors, rely heavily on routine, and have difficulties paying attention. These issues can interfere with your quality of life, relationships, and performance at school or work.

When should I schedule autism testing?

What is involved in autism testing?

There are multiple tests involved in autism testing, but no single test is available to make a diagnosis. The providers at Radical Healing have extensive experience using screening resources like behavioral observations and written or oral questionnaires to assess autism symptoms. The provider utilizes these along with the diagnostic ADOS-2 exam and the ADI-R interview in combination with a comprehensive clinical assessment to make a diagnosis.

During your visit, you can expect to answer questions about your childhood health and behaviors. The providers also ask about your interests, relationships, repetitive behaviors, and sensory awareness.

After your autism testing is complete, the Radical Healing providers offer supportive resources you or your child may need to be successful at school, work, and home. Resources may include letters for accommodations for work or school and explanations of you or your child’s diagnosis to other providers.

The providers can also coordinate care with your family physician, counselor, and other healthcare professionals, providing you or your child with the guidance needed to thrive physically, mentally, and socially.
